Usha Khosla

Full Description

This science says that the seeds of disease lie in the mind and its manifestations appear in the body. So, treatment remains incomplete if only physical body and its symptoms are taken into consideration and mind is ignored. For complete eradication of the disease, mind has to be taken into consideration as well. Ayurveda believes that we have an innate capability to heal ourselves.Ayurvedic science believes that all things are one, and that humans are comprised of the same basic elements as our universe. These elements are ether, air, fire, water, and earth. Since all matter is made up of five elements, combined, they represent the three humors or doshas that are present within each one of us in different proportions. Most of us are a combination of two doshas with one being dominant; but we show traits of all three, namely: Vata, Pitta, and Kapha.
Vata Like Air Cold, Dry and Light
Pitta Like Fire Hot, Moist and Light
Kapha Like Water Moist, Cold and Heavy
These are the three prime energies. Infinite combinations and permutations of these energies are possible. According to Ayurveda, no two persons are alike and no two presentations of a disease are alike. This diversity is because of these diverse combinations. Each person has a constitution created at conception that determines their basic physiology and personality.Ayurveda looks at the physical and mental characteristics to determine one’s doshas. When natural balance of doshas is disturbed, illness can occur. Ayurveda removes the condition that allowed the illness to occur by restoring the natural balance of the doshas. Good health, a stress free mind, and a harmonious life are invariably a result of a balance of the three doshas. An Ayurvedic specialist prescribes a diet especially planned for each individual and the state of their metabolism to achieve a balance of doshas. Other methods include use of herbs, yoga, meditation, exercise, Ayurvedic massage, sound therapy, aromatherapy, and color therapy along with other life style adjustments. Ayurveda does not approach the cure of a disease as much as it approaches the cure of the person who has the disease.

Ayurveda believes that cleansing of body and mind is essential for eliminating toxins and waste material accumulated in the body that creates imbalance and disease. Rejuvenation then follows, rebuilding the cells and tissues to improve health and prevent susceptibility to disease. While Ayurveda concentrates on an individual and how to control disease through balancing the life force within the individual; Allopathic medicine focuses on pathogens and control of disease from the outside. Western medical science is structure oriented while Ayurveda concentrates on functional aspect of life forces. There is increasing awareness and interest in the science of Ayurveda and its healing therapies. Pancha Karma treatments are becoming very popular throughout the world to maintain the health of body and mind, prevent disease, enhance beauty, and increase longevity.
